Katherine Liu Cantor earned her M.M. in Violin Performance from The Juilliard School with scholarship under the tutelage of Sally Thomas, and her B.A. in Childhood and Special Education & Music from Wagner College as a member of the Education Honor Society (Kappa Delta Pi), National Leadership Society (Omicron Delta Kappa), Dean’s List, and was awarded Distinction in Teaching from the Education Department Chair.

Born and raised in New York City, Katherine is a recipient of numerous awards in both education and music.  She has attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute: Young Artist Orchestra, The Perlman Music Program as a Fellow, and the Meadowmount School of Music as Teaching Assistant to Sally Thomas.  As a concert artist, she has performed in Weill Hall & Stern Auditorium of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Peter J. Sharp Theatre, Paul Hall, David Geffen Hall, Symphony Space, and in Taipei, Taiwan as guest soloist playing Samuel Barber's Violin Concerto.  More recently, she performed with the Staten Island Philharmonic as the guest violinist in 'An American Concerto' by Gwyneth Walker.

She is an alumna of the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program and its Orchestra, and received the CMP Director’s Award in Commitment and Achievement twice in consecutive years.  Prior to becoming Assistant Director of the NYYSCMP in 2019, Katherine was Apprentice Coach Intern, Assistant Manager, and Manager of the CMP.  Previously, Katherine directed Stony Brook University's Youth Ensemble & coached chamber music in their Young Artists Program.

Currently, Katherine is on music faculty at Horace Mann School’s Lower Division teaching String Orchestra, Trinity School's After School & Summer Music Program, and maintains an active private teaching studio in NYC and CT.  She has a broad interest in all genres of music, is an avid collaborator in musicals, operas, choruses, ballets, and has premiered multiple compositions around the Tri-State area.
